Bassein Fort, Vasai Fort
The Portuguese built Bassein Fort here to strengthen their naval superiority over the Arabian Sea. In the 18th century, the fort was taken over by the Maratha army and fell in 1739 after a three-year-long campaign.
The British then took over the territory from the Marathas in the First Anglo-Maratha War.
This fort is in ruins. Fort is not well maintained but is a major destination for tourist, photographers and most of all film shooters. The fort premises is very big and one can drive a car to visit different points. Fort is easily accessible by road. This fort is a true art and beauty. A very beautiful piece of architectural marvel. Also there is a port to this fort known as Killa Bunder.
A small village and a temple is also located inside the fort. This fort is now under district Palghar. Earlier which was under Thane. A must visit fort for going back in time of the kings and rulers.
